Adjacent Properties has received approval to pursue the development of a new childcare center building designed to support the growing needs of families in the Phelps County community. Pending final approval, the proposed facility will be built behind the Medical Plaza, conveniently located near Holdrege Elementary School, and is intended to be designed to accommodate approximately 100 children.
This is in direct response to the shortage of long-term, guaranteed facilities available for local providers in the area. Adjacent Properties is currently in the early planning stages—focusing on building design, pricing, and securing the right layout to meet the needs of local families and providers. Following final board approval and permits, construction will be expected to begin in late 2025, with completion projected for 2026.
Importantly, Adjacent Properties will own and lease the building to a local childcare provider who will operate the center. The childcare provider will independently determine enrollment and fees, all families will still be subject to the provider’s standard tuition rates.
“Supporting local families with reliable childcare is critical to community growth,” said Jaimee Anderson, Director of Operations for Adjacent Properties. “We’re committed to investing in solutions that not only serve our area now, but also build a stronger foundation for the future.”
Partnership with HAECP
Adjacent Properties has played an active role in addressing early childhood education challenges in the Holdrege area through its participation in the Holdrege Area Early Childhood Partnership (HAECP). This coalition was initially established by the Holdrege Area Chamber of Commerce and is supported by the Nebraska Children and Families Foundation. The HAECP is working alongside local employers, school agencies, and childcare providers to strengthen the community’s early childhood infrastructure.
Adjacent Properties is proud to contribute to this momentum by creating a lasting facility that will help meet long-term childcare needs in Phelps County.
Childcare providers interested in leasing the space are encouraged to reach out to Jaimee Anderson, info@adjacentproperties.com.
The childcare building will be located behind the Medical Plaza, near the Holdrege Elementary School.
A licensed local childcare provider will run the center. Adjacent Properties will own and lease the space but will not operate the childcare center.
The center will have space for approximately 100 children.
Construction is scheduled for completion in 2026.
Enrollment will be open to the public; however, employees of Phelps Memorial Health Center, Phelps Medical Group and Adjacent Properties will have priority enrollment.
Enrollment is open to the public, however employees of PMHC, PMG and Adjacent Properties will be given “priority” for new, open childcare spots only. No child currently enrolled with any potential childcare provider will lose their current care.
Yes. The provider will set tuition rates. All families, including PMHC, PMG and Adjacent Properties employees, will be responsible for payment.
This project addresses the limited long-term availability of childcare options in Holdrege, supporting working families and community growth.
While this project is not directly connected to the HAECP, the need for a childcare center was brought forward through the inception of HAECP. Therefore, this project does support HAECP’s mission to expand access to quality childcare.
No. This center will add capacity, not replace existing providers. It’s an important step in strengthening local childcare infrastructure.
